When you think of organic chicken, you may picture a flock of chickens nibbling away in a green pasture.
But what exactly is organic chicken?
Organic chicken is poultry reared without feeding any antibiotics or hormones throughout their life.
It also means that there are no artificial feed or additives in the feed nor are the chickens genetically modified (GMOs) for quick growth.
Organic chicken is produced in a way that avoids the use of additives, artificial growth hormones, antibiotics, and other practices common to conventional broiler chicken production.
The feed must also be natural and non-GMO.In general, the organic label means that the food has been produced under standards set by the governments and certified by authorized independent organizations.
For producers, this means meeting a standard for what goes into the production process from start to finish.However, in India, there are no legal standards set for organic chicken or any meat for that matter.
So, in general, the standards applicable to organic farming of grains, fruits, and vegetables can also be applied to animal farming.
